Challenges

Last year I didn't read as many books as I would like (only around 60 ish), at the beginning of the year I struggled with finding the energy to pick up a book, I found no enjoyment in reading and would find myself giving up. It wasn't the books fault, I've since picked many of them up and thoroughly enjoyed them all. It was me and just couldn't concentrate on the words, I couldn't bring forth the imagery and see what the character saw. To be honest I felt a little like Esther Greenwood from Sylvia Plath's the Bell Jar.

“But when I took up my pen, my hand made big, jerky letters like those of a child, and the lines sloped down the page from left to right horizontally, as if they were loops of string lying on the paper, and someone had come along and blown them askew.”

So this year I decided to challenge myself to read new things and try and branch away from what I would normally read, experience something new. Now I apologise in advance if someone else is doing a challenge like this, this isn't meant to be something for everyone to join in on (not that you can't) its just more personal for me and what I want to accomplish with my reading goals.

Each month I will try to read books from different categories and I have to read at least one from each:
  1. YA adult
  2. New author
  3. Science Fiction or Fantasy
  4. Modern Classic
  5. Classic
  6. Dark Romance
  7. Book from a series I have already started
  8. Contemporary Fiction
Obviously some of these categories will overlap but that's okay, as long as I read something from each.

My target for this year is 100 books, and so by reading one from each of these and a few extra I will easily be able to reach my goal and maybe surpass it.

I will post on here my list each month, with a link to the corresponding review and if anyone wants to recommend some titles to me, I'm always open to suggestions.
